From OOo4Kids
- very good job!
may be it should be better to put the download links in one column instead in one line:
Download (Current Milestone : 0.3)
• Mac (0 ko)
• Windows (0 ko)
• Linux (0 ko)
@Jean Marie :

where to report bugs and other stuff?
Hello!— I just stumbled across your project and I really think it's worthwhile. I downloaded two RCs (English and Spanish) and noticed that the Java interface is broken. I'd like to submit a bug report, but I don't know where to go. The links are not that informative. Please add links to the relevant development bug system (bugzilla, whatever). Thanks, Louie 02:04, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi,
- First, about report bugs: OOo4Kids source code is hosted there (to avoid depending on a company):
http://adullact.net/tracker/?group_id=645 To report bugs, just click on the "bugs" and you'll be done.
- Well, thanks! Louie 18:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Second, about Java : OOo4Kids does not use Java. The reason is, we have to make OOo4Kids run on XO machines (1GB of HD only, and 256 MB of RAM, what is really not much). So, if you need Java, please use OpenOffice.org instead. Thanks :)
Eric Bachard 07:54, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- OK. I thought it was a bug, but it's a feature. So you guys must fix this image, linked to the configuration page, perhaps among others. Louie 18:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Good catch! I'll change for an up to date one asap. Thanks for your sharp eye :-)
- [ Done ]
- If that is the case, then I assume that the only way to extend the system will be BASIC macros and perhaps python-uno packages. Correct?— Thanks for your reply, Louie 18:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- The priority in OOo4Kids is to remove what is not usefull for children, and add new features if and only if they bring a value added, pedagogically that is, or simplify, or something really justified.
- I understand. Thanks. Louie 20:45, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you want something extensible, please use OpenOffice.org instead (in fact, OOo4Kids has not been thought to become extensible)
- A specific set of extensions comes to mind, namely, spellchecker dictionaries. Since they depend only on Hunspell, I guess they shall work without trouble. Louie 20:45, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Currently only C++ extensions (and the python one maybe) can be used. Basic is disabled (due to some crashes I'll debug soon). Not sure we'll use Basic at all, because we'd like to not interfere with OpenOffice.org in this domain.
- IMO, Python (and XML/XSL) is so pervasive in the code underlying OOo that it cannot be removed; so pyuno (and perhaps XML/XSL) packs/scripts seem to be the way. Which is nice: a couple of built-in openly specified scripting languages without the need to load precompiled bytecode or a large external proprietary interpreter. (And I don't like Java anyway :-) Louie 20:45, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

- I'll see if I can port an old OOo extension written in Python for my copy of 3o4k and I'll report the results. Cheers, Louie 20:45, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Good idea : the XO port is something important for us, and Python / pyuno is promised to a great future with this port (XO machines use Python intensively). Thanks in advance for your contribution. Eric Bachard 07:02, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

python and other extensions
Hello!— I have mixed results in my attempts to load extensions to ooo4kids. Dictionary packs work well, but the PyUNO package I tried to reconfigure is failing for some mystifying reason. I'd like to know where to upload this failing package (and another couple of XSL export filters I'm testing right now) to get feedback on how to make it work. Cheers, Louie 17:14, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi,
Thanks for your work !
Is it possible to provide us more information about the
- successfull extensions installation - the one who failed.
e.g. could be great to provide us the failing one, thus I'll be able to try and tell you why, or better, to understand what happens, and why not, fix the issue.
Other tools I propose you is mailing lists, you'll be able to find at http://adullact.net/projects/ooo4kids1
The most simple is to create an account ( be carefull, you need to choose 1 digit, 1 upper/lower case letter 1 special character like $,. and so on and more than 6 characters in your password to succeeed the account creation)
FYI, we created dedicated mailing lists. See : https://adullact.net/mail/?group_id=645
Last but not least, the project is visible on ohloh too : http://www.ohloh.net/p/ooo4kids

Translations
Hello everyone. I was wondering how can I translate OOO4Kifds to my language (Arabic)?. Specially, Open office is already had been translated to Arabic.
Hello, IMHO this should be possible. Our process : we ask someone for the concerned locale to take over the task, and we provide a place, for the new locales. Please have a look at NewLocalization.
The principle is simple :
- for every string to be added, add one for your locale, and I'll commit them after. The only thing I'm not sure, is whether the RTL works well for arabic, and the current state is the one you have for OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, so it should work.
- Every time we add a feature, we'll ask for people to translate into the concerned locale, else, english will be used as fallback.
I hope this answers your question
Eric Bachard 07:05, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
So as I understand, I should go to the NewLocalization page. Than, I edit by adding Ar="..." for each string as the other languages. Or should I wait until you open the new local?? about the RTL, if OOO4Kids bases on OO3.2, it is fine because OO3.2 fixs a lot of RTL problems and the connection problems.

Yes, that's it. As example, I have put some entries (please confirm Arabic == ar) . You just have to continue, with all the strings in the page. Once you'll consider this is ok, then I'll commit the changes, and we'll provide you a build,n the OS of your choice, to confirm the strings are ok. Other possibility : use an UTF-8 editor, and add yourself the strings, create a patch and send me the patch. Same process for the tests.

O.K I have started to translate some of them. I moved the discussion to NewLocalization discussion. I faced some points. Can you take look on them. they are here
